Programme activities

In association with the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, we conduct many joint programme activities including all or some Network members. The aim of these activities is organisation of diverse thematic film programmes in order to reach as many people as possible and generate media and public response. Creative programming and common promotion and public relations are our attempts of joint effort on audience development of the audience in our respective members’ environments.

So far we have organised the following events:

Short Film Marathon

Short Film Marathon is an event celebrating the short form on the shortest day in a year, 21 December. The event includes all short genres and forms from Croatia and several European countries, and so far we have successfully organised three Marathons – in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

The Shortest Day initiative (Le jour le plus court) was launched in 2012 by the French National Film Centre (Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée) in association with the Short Film Agency (l’Agence du court métrage), with an idea of a day-long promotion of rich short film repertory in entire country. Following a big success in France, the initiative spread internationally and now includes 14 European countries.

Celebrating the International Women’s Day on 8 March, in 2015 we designed the programme called Women’s Day Weekend – 8 March Cinema, which brought outstanding and award-winning film titles about powerful women and their challenges in today’s society on the big screens.

The event marked the beginning of small cinema revitalisation and is a certain introduction into new programming that will celebrate interesting and important dates and that way get closer to the local audience.

The second Women’s Day Weekend took place 5-8 March 2016 and screened five must-see stories about women. This year’ Women’s Day Weekend included 20 cities and towns and 26 independent cinemas and presented new titles and reruns focusing, naturally, on women.

The Croatian Independent Cinemas Network and the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC) have prepared an event under the title Summer at the Cinema, presenting outstanding European and Croatian films from the festivals in Split, Pula and Motovun.

The idea of the Summer at the Cinema project was to bring and offer audiences across Croatia the line-ups of summer film festivals in Croatia. All the interested cineastes have a chance to see, courtesy of the Cinema Network, a selection of films from the Mediterranean Film Festival Split, Pula Film Festival and Motovun Film Festival. The Cinema Network listings are running the entire summer, with films released immediately after individual festivals.

“Summer film festivals are the sources and focal points of good energy, fun and even better film titles. The Croatian Audiovisual Centre is pleased that this summer’s cinematic feasts will spread across the entire Network, not just the festival locations. We are certain that in scorching summer evenings people will seek refreshment in their cinemas, as this summer’s catch will be a fantastic one!” said Rea Rajčić, cinema project manager at HAVC.
