The cutting-edge cinema ’30. svibnja’ (May 30), part of the Public Open University Daruvar, consists of 286 comfortable seats produced by the Spanish manufacturer Figueras and is equipped with a state-of-the-srt projector Barco DP2K-15C, as well as classic projectors for 35 mm screenings, DOLBY digital surround EX cinema sound system and air conditioning.
Annually, the listings include over 100 films, mainly feature fiction, animated and several documentaries that went to regular distribution. A cross-section reveals that commercial American production dominates, alongside other English-speaking countries, although we try to cater to more demanding audiences with high quality cinematic achievements and other cinemas – primarily those from European countries and Croatian films, rare but all the more valuable. Most of our listings is arranged with BLITZ, Duplicato, Continental film, 2i film and Discovery distribution companies, but we also collaborate with small distributers and embassies in Croatia that help us with national cinemas (Czech and French).
The cinema is a member of the newly established independent cinema network and European foundation for support to European film EUROPA CINEMAS. It collaborates with the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (a state-owned institution supporting audiovisual production and promoting audiovisual culture), and through it with small specialised distributions and many associations like Djeca susreću umjetnost (Children Meet Art).
Screenings take place on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 4, 6, 7 or 8 pm, depending on the number and duration of films on a certain weekend. (Summer slots are scheduled an hour later.) Thursday is family day with a reduced ticket price.
Public Open University Daruvar is a cultural and educational institution founded by the City of Daruvar, a full member of the Croatian Association of Public and Open Universities, seated in Zagreb. With a broad range of activities in recent years, POU Daruvar has become a recognisable centre of cultural and educational contents in Bjelovar-Bilogora County, and its programmes are also attended by users from other counties. Our institution was established in 1961 as a People’s University, and with time changed its structure and content. It also included a driving school, radio station, library and two times school of music.
In 1999, pursuant to the legal provisions and founders’ decisions, our institution acts under the name of Public Open University Daruvar, managed by its managing diriector.
In addition to the mentioned core businesses, POU Daruvar also fosters cultural amateur activities in the City of Daruvar (brass music band, majorettes, folklore, dance, drama etc.), and as a company DARUC d.o.o. it provides catering services at Kino café in the entrance hall.
The institution is mostly funded from revenues from the services it provides on the market, and a minor share comes from budget allocations.
The University’s core businesses are culture and education:
In the field of education, the University provides various educational programmes, from a foreign language school, IT school, to other forms of vocational training and hobby programmes.
All classes take place in two classrooms at the City Recreation Centre and IT classroom of the Daruvar High School.
Regarding culture, the University organises many music and stage performances: theatre, concerts, academies, amateur festivals, exhibitions and, of course, film screenings. The all-purpose cinema also serves as venue for larger seminars or meetings.
